Freak tornado wrecks havoc in Dubrovnik

A freak weather condition saw a tornado, or twister, spin down the main street on the historic Old City of Dubrovnik causing havoc on its way. A few minutes before 6:00pm today the twister passed along the Stradun pulling down huge sun umbrellas, ripping sunshades off buildings and throwing chairs and tables across the street. Confused tourists looked on in horror as the twister made its way through the Old City leaving behind it a trail of destruction. One lady was injured when a heavy sun umbrella, weighing up to 100 kilograms, was “uprooted” and flew on her. The emergency services were called to the scene and the lady was rushed to the Dubrovnik General Hospital.Currently Dubrovnik is gripped in a storm with torrential rain and lightening, and the forecast for the next few days is for more of the same with even floods expected.
