A full eight days earlier than in 2013 Dubrovnik has achieved two million overnight stays in 2014. On the 15th of August the two millionth overnight stay mark was beaten. Dubrovnik is also pushing ahead of the rest of Croatia in terms of tourism with the higher number of tourist arrivals, 733,291, compared with any other destination in the country. The Dubrovnik Tourist Board presented the figures today at a press conference. The director of the tourist board, Romana Vlasic, commented that from the beginning of this year to the 16th of august 561,132 tourists have arrived in Dubrovnik achieving 2.02 million overnight stays. This is a massive 13 percent increase in the number of tourist arrivals and a 9 percent increase in the number of overnight stays. As in the last few years guests from Great Britain are at the top of the list of nationalities, followed by guests from France, Germany and the USA. Around 14 percent of all guests who have visited Dubrovnik this year have been from the UK and they have made for 20 percent of overnight stays.Mayor Vlahušić added that over the last five years, the city has seen a 75 percent increase in tourist traffic and re-emphasized the importance of private accommodation which is constantly growing, not only in quantity but also in quality. He stressed that for the first time this year, Dubrovnik will have more regular tourists than cruise ship passengers. Whilst hotels have seen a rise of 5 percent so far this year in the city private accommodation is flourishing with a massive 42 percent increase since the beginning of 2014.
