Hercules research ship in Croatia again

The research vessel “Hercules” from the American Maritime Foundation arrived in Dubrovnik yesterday and will, for the third time, explore the Croatian seabed. The Ministry of Culture has secured funding for the costs of the research teams, restoration and publication and mooring fees in Dubrovnik, while the American partner provides funds for the maintenance of the ship, fuel, crew, technical equipment and technicians. Studies have begun along the coastline in Konavle and will continue today around the island of Lokrum. Hercules can view the seabed to a depth of 100 metres.The research boat has already found a number of potential shipwrecks. According to the information a few of these wrecks have been confirmed to be ships from the Middle Ages as well as ships from the two world wars. The research equipment on the Hercules is very advanced and also includes an underwater robot. Archaeologists are hoping that the ship will help them pinpoint locations that need further investigation.
