Lidl flying the flag for Croatian goods

The German supermarket chain Lidl is flying the flag for Croatia outside of the country. According to recent financial reports from Lidl, which currently owns and operates 86 supermarkets in Croatia, the company has seen a 100 percent growth in the export of Croatian products. In 2014 Lidl exported €5.7 million of Croatian goods to foreign markets. Home-grown Croatian companies, such as PPK, Gavrilovic, Osatina and Alba have all seen their exports rise thanks to the German supermarket. In 2013 Lidl exported around €2.5 million worth to foreign markets, making last year’s results even more impressive.The majority of the Croatian exports are going to Slovenia, Bulgaria, Hungary and the Czech Republic. However Lidl also has plans to open up other European markets such as Spain and Portugal.Special Croatian weeks and offers in European countries are proving popular. And the German giant is also taking advantage of sporting events to promote Croatian goods. According to reports in the media Lidl sold around 1 million Kuna worth of Croatian products when Croatia played football against Bulgaria.
