21 children from the “Dom Maslina” orphanage enjoyed a full day of sailing to the island of Lopud on the 13th of June, as part of an ongoing humanitarian program of support from the Dubrovnik Foreign Circle. Five skippers from the Orsan Yacht Club generously donated their time and sailing equipment, as well as lunch for the children. The Dubrovnik Foreign Circle raised funds for this event through their recent International Bake and Book Sale held in front of Sponza Palace, as well as their silent auction in November of a painting donated by Croatian artist Duško Sibl. The funds raised were used for the sailing trip as well as to purchase gift vouchers for the children which they can use for necessary personal supplies. The Dubrovnik Foreign Circle would liek to take this opportunity to thank the Orsan Yacht Club and Mary Ann Pulizzi, the founder of “Smiles to Sail,” for participating in the event, as well as RWE and Quickbornhilfte.V. in Germany, who purchased the painting at auction. The Dubrovnik Foreign Circle is a non-profit organization which aims to support the Dubrovnik community through social and humanitarian events. This goal was successfully accomplished during the trip to Lopud – just by looking at the happy faces of the children from Dom Maslina.
